That said, DeCandido set a monumental task before himself with this novel, and he 100% delivers upon it. The plot device he uses is both large enough to justify its existence, and delicate enough to not encroach on the episodes it references. While these novels may not be ‘CANON’ this novel now provides my definitive head-canon for Q’s motivations; It, in the best way possible, changed the way I view a character I’ve known my entire life for the better. Anyone who’s a Q fan should read this novel…
