Description

During James T. Kirk’s five-year mission as captain of the Starship Enterprise,â„¢ a mysterious alien threat called “The Totality” commenced its invasion, intending to conquer the Milky Way galaxy as it had conquered the Andromeda. A war unlike any other is about to begin — one that threatens to destroy the Federation.

Captain Kirk has encountered the Totality before. It took the beguiling form of Norinda, an irresistible alien who becomes the woman each person most desperately desires. In his first encounter, Kirk almost lost the Enterprise. In his second encounter, he almost lost his child, and watched in horror as the Totality absorbed Spock in its monstrous dimensional tendrils. But now, Kirk faces an even more devastating personal challenge. The battle lines have been drawn, and he and his friend Captain Jean-Luc Picard are on opposite sides.

With Captain William Riker of the Starship Titan caught in the cross fire of the conflict between Kirk and Picard, and with Kirk’s own child poised on the brink of a startling destiny millions of years in the making, Kirk must prepare for his final encounter with the Totality. But how can Kirk fight an enemy whose greatest weapon is love? And how can he triumph, when the price of victory is the life of his only child?

Star Trek: The Original Series: The Rings of Time

2020 The U.S.S. Lewis & Clark, under the command of Colonel Shaun Christopher, sets off on humanity’s first manned mission to Saturn. But the unexpected presence of a stowaway complicates the mission—as does a startling encounter with an alien probe. But when Colonel Christopher attempts to capture the probe, he suddenly finds himself transported across time and space to a future era of space exploration. . . .

Stardate 7103.4 The U.S.S. Enterprise responds to an urgent distress call from a mining colony orbiting Klondike VI, a ringed gas giant not unlike Saturn. For unknown reasons, the planet’s rings are coming apart, threatening the safety of the colony and its inhabitants. Searching for a way to avert the disaster, Captain James T. Kirk and his crew investigate a mysterious alien probe that has just entered the system. But when the probe is beamed aboard, Kirk abruptly finds himself floating in space above Saturn, wearing an old-fashioned NASA spacesuit, with the Enterprise nowhere in sight. . . .

Two missions. Two crews. And a time-twisting crisis that spans the centuries. . . .

The U.S.S. Enterprise, under the command of Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, is returning from a mission to deliver medical supplies to Deep Space Station C-15, one of Starfleet’s most distant installations. All is routine until the Enterprise comes within a light-year of the planet Mu Arigulon, when the ship is suddenly thrown from warp and suffers a momentary power cut, having run aground on a spatial distortion not revealed in previous scans of the system. When the pride of Starfleet hits another, much worse distortion, Dr. Leonard McCoy has his hands full caring for officers who have suddenly fallen into comas for no apparent reason. The Enterprise medical team soon discovers that the dying officers are espers—humans with a rare and abnormal level of telepathic and psychic ability. With no choice but to link to the officers’ minds in order to come to their aid, McCoy is plunged into a nightmarish dream-world . . . with the end result being nothing short of the possible destruction of the Enterprise and all aboard her. . . .

Description

Before James T. Kirk, another captain stood on the bridge of the U.S.S. Enterpriseâ„¢, spearheading its mission of exploration into the uncharted reaches of the galaxy. He was a man driven to perfection, a brooding soul whose haunted eyes reflected the burden of the impossible standards he set for himself, and for whom his longtime science officer, Spock, one day would risk everything. Yet, little is truly known about the enigmatic Christopher Pike, the events that defined him…or the secrets that consumed him.

From the embers of his early childhood among Earth’s blossoming interstellar colonies, to the terrifying conflagration that led him back to the world of his birth; from the mentor who would ignite young Chris’s desire to return to the stars, to the career he blazed in Starfleet that would end in supreme sacrifice — the path of Pike’s astonishing life leads through fire again and again. But even amid the ashes of Talos IV, the forbidden world on which he would live out the remainder of his days, the dreams smoldering still within his aging, radiation-ravaged breast fan the flames of Pike’s spirit to accomplish one final task….

Description

Star Trek: Constellations is a mind-blowing collection of specially-commissioned stories designed to go where no anthology has gone before. Featuring the iconic heroes of the Star Trek universe — the legendary characters who were the inspiration for all those who followed — this treasure trove of untold tales recreates all the sense of adventure that marked the original Star Trek when it first burst on to our television screens in 1966. Each story takes as its inspiration an element of ‘unfinished business’ from the original series so that they read like ‘lost episodes’ of the television show, exploring aspects of the Star Trek crew and their adventures which have intrigued Trekkers ever since the original series ended. The result is a magnificent tribute to the series that changed the face of television history and will have millions of fans worldwide feeling as though they have just discovered a whole ‘missing’ season of their favourite show.

Description

Vulcan: linchpin member of the United Federation of Planets. Home to a civilization dedicated to o’thia, the ruling ethic of pure logic. But it was not always so; thousands of years before, Vulcans were a violent, warlike race, with tempers surpassed only by the planet’s hot, arid sands. The philosopher Surak would show his people another way, teach them to reject their emotions and embrace logic and knowledge. The Vulcans would evolve and prosper, eventually exploring the stars and attaining further enlightenment as they encountered other cultures.

In the twenty-third century, Commander Spock, Captain Kirk, and the U.S.S. Enterprise are summoned to Vulcan when its people consider seceding from the Federation and returning to their isolationist ways. Vulcan’s savage history becomes fully revealed as Spock, his father Sarek, and Kirk work to preserve the planet’s future from anti-Terran factions with hidden agendas. The crisis is twofold for the half-human Spock — should Vulcan secede, he will be required to resign from Starfleet and return home, or forever sever ties with his homeworld.

Years later, a decades-old plot to destroy the Federation from within forces Ambassador Sarek from the bedside of his dying wife, Amanda. The ambassador’s decision widens the long-standing rift between himself and Spock at a time when they must pool their resources together. While the Enterprise crew contends with Romulans, Klingons, and the mysterious Freelans, Sarek’s only comfort comes from reading Amanda’s journals, which reveal more about his human spouse, his son, and himself than he ever realized.

Crispin ( Star Trek: Yesterday’s Son ) has packed everything a die-hard Trekkie could want into this lighthearted romp with characters from the original series. Spock’s father Sarek must uncover the origins of a plot to defame the Vulcans, for the dastardly scheme is only the first step in a plan to destroy the Federation. Needless to say, all of Sarek’s respected diplomatic skills are needed to combat the villains. But Sarek is torn between doing his duty to the Federation or forsaking his beloved human wife Amanda, who is on her deathbed. Several subplots, including an interspecies romance between Kirk’s nephew Peter and a Klingon girl add spice to the galactic stew. A lagniappe (for those readers who don’t mind heavy sentimentality) is the addition of Amanda’s journals, which are full of exotic details about life on Vulcan and heartfelt recollections of Sarek’s and Spock’s lives. Most of the best-loved characters put in appearances, and there are some amusing variations on the better known “trademark” lines. A rather jarring twist results when the normally repressed Spock becomes excessively emotional about his mother’s demise. Though the plot ties up as neatly and simplistically as it would in a TV episode, this piece of fluff should be roundly loved by its target audience.

Description

It is the twenty-third century. On the planet Vulcan, a crisis of unprecedented proportion has caused the convocation of the planet’s ruling council — and summoned the U.S.S. Enterpriseâ„¢ from halfway across the galaxy, to bring Vulcan’s most famous son home in its hour of need.

As Commander Spock, his father Sarek, and Captain James T. Kirk struggle to preserve Vulcan’s future, the planet’s innermost secrets are laid before us, from its beginnings millions of years ago to its savage prehistory, from merciless tribal warfare to medieval court intrigue, from the exploration of space to the the development of o’thia — the ruling ethic of logic. And Spock — torn between his duty to Starfleet and the unbreakable ties that bind him to Vulcan — must find a way to reconcile both his own inner conflict and the external dilemma his planet faces…lest the Federation itself be ripped asunder.

Diane Duane, author of three previous bestselling STAR TREK novels and an episode of the new STAR TREK NEXT GENERATION® television series, as well as countless other bestselling science fiction and fantasy novels, has crafted a tale of unprecedented scope and imagination, at once a generations-spanning historical novel and a thrilling science fiction adventure.
